Former Premier League referee Dermot Gallagher has agreed with referee Tim Robinson's decision to award Chelsea a penalty during their 1-0 win over Leicester on Sunday.
The Blues appealed for several penalties throughout the game but were given just one when Jadon Sancho was felled inside the area by Victor Kristiansen. Replays showed that Kristiansen caught Sancho on the toe - the piece of contact which caused the on loan forward to go down and Robinson to point to the spot.
Delivering his view on the incident, Gallagher told Sky Sports' Ref Watch: "He stands on Sancho's boot. The referee has a good view of it.
"Why he does it, I don't know, because he's going outside of the penalty area, but he does trip him."
Cole Palmer, who has endured a difficult time of late, ended up missing the penalty with Mads Hermansen guessing the right way and making a superb stop down to his left-hand side.
It came a matter of minutes after Palmer thought he won a penalty himself. The England international appeared to be running through on goal before going down after he felt he was fouled by Luke Thomas. However, Robinson waved away appeals and VAR agreed with the on-field decision.
"I just don't think this is a penalty," Gallagher added. "I didn't think it was a penalty at the time and now I've seen it a number of times, I still don't think it is a penalty."
Chelsea, who won the game thanks to Marc Cucurella's long-range strike, were incensed that they should have been given another penalty in the second half.
Pedro Neto dribbled through before falling to the desk following James Justin's challenge, though the Leicester defender appeared to get the ball.
"The clue is the ball, Gallagher continued. "He actually plays the ball away and Neto goes over his leg. It was a really good spot by the referee."
