Chelsea must return to try and sign'unbelievable'player after choosing Cole Palmer instead of him - opinion

Chelsea have been strongly linked with a number of attacking players in recent years, however will be delighted with the main target they landed in the last couple of years.

Cole Palmer has revolutionised Chelsea, with many supporters fearing to think about where they would be if they hadn’t taken the chance on bringing him in from Manchester City.

The England international is currently undergoing his worst run in a Chelsea shirt, with him not finding the net in the last eight games in all competitions.

Things perhaps reached a new low in their last game against Leicester, when Palmer’s perfect penalty record ended after a big save from Mads Hermansen.

Despite there being not a single person associated with Chelsea being disappointed with the addition of the 22-year-old, the Blues did turn down a number of other top targets at the time due to signing him.

Chelsea must try and sign Rayan Cherki after prior interest

One of those was Michael Olise, however there were efforts made the next summer to try and bring him in, before he chose Bayern Munich.

Another player they were interested in was Rayan Cherki, who was breaking through at Lyon and impressing greatly.

Chelsea were close to signing Cherki, however turned down the option due to having added Palmer to their ranks.

For a while, their decision looked to be vindicated, as the 21-year-old’s form suffered as a result of the mess that his club, Lyon had found themselves in.

Now though, the French giants are back in the top six in Ligue 1, and Cherki has become one of the more exciting players in the division again too.

The youngster has previously been described as ‘unbelievable’ on the ‘Ranks FC’ podcast, and his run of form should put him back on Chelsea’s radar if they want to sign a new attacker this summer.

Chelsea’s other attacking targets

Chelsea are firmly in the conversation to sign a number of new attackers this summer, with it being reported they haven’t been impressed by Jadon Sancho since he arrived on loan.

The Blues have been linked with Rafael Leao, with the expectation being that AC Milan have softened their stance on him being unsellable.

It will be noted though that Chelsea are set to welcome Estevao Willian at the end of the season, after completing the signing of him ahead of time.

Estevao will stay at Stamford Bridge for next season, with plenty of excitement around the impact he will immediately make.
