As the Denver Broncos consider tight-end options in free agency, one veteran would give the team experience in the direction the head coach, Sean Payton, and the company want to take.
Washington Commanders tight end Zach Ertz has Super Bowl experience and continues to play at a high level. Broncos insider Mike Klis floated Ertz as a viable free agent option.
"He'll turn 35 in November so the end may be near. But his play suggested otherwise in 2024 as he had 66 catches, 38 for first downs, 654 yards and 7 touchdowns in helping QB Jayden Daniels win Rookie of the Year honors," Klis wrote.
"Ertz came through big in the postseason also with 18 catches for 13 first downs and 155 yards and a touchdown in three games."
Broncos quarterback Bo Nix would have a strong, reliable pass-catcher. Over his career, Ertz has been known for having excellent chemistry with quarterbacks. He has also played with Carson Wentz, Nick Foles, Jalen Hurts, and Kyler Murray.
"A three-time Pro Bowler and one-time Super Bowl champion from 2017-19 with the Eagles, Ertz played on an affordable one-year, $3 million deal last year," Klis added.
Spotrac projects Ertz for $5.3 million annually, which the Broncos can afford amid $40.68 million in cap space. The downside would be that the Broncos may have to shop for a tight end again as early as 2026.
