Everton are set to renegotiate terms with Abdoulaye Doucoure after declining to activate his one-year extension clause, sources have told Football Insider.
As per The Athletic (6 March) the Toffees have decided against triggering the extension clause in Doucoure’s contract, meaning he will be free to leave at the end of the season as things stand.
However, sources say a fresh deal for the midfielder “can’t be ruled out” given his continued importance for Everton.
It is believed the Merseyside club will seek to reduce Doucoure’s wages in a renewed contract – with the ex-Watford man keen to stay and play in the club’s new stadium.

The 32-year-old is still a key man for David Moyes side and has a lot to offer going forward.
Doucoure has made 27 appearances across all competitions this term, notching three goals and one assist.

Newman in advanced talks to join Everton
Football Insider revealed on Monday (10 March) that Everton are in advanced talks with ex-West Ham recruitment chief Rob Newman.
Newman previously worked with Toffees boss David Moyes during their time together at West Ham – and has also worked at Man City.
Everton want to shake up their recruitment team under the new owners after The Friedkin Group (TFG) bought the club in December 2024.
