Barcelona and Real Madrid are reportedly keen on signing 23-year-old French goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier from Ligue 1 club LOSC Lille in the summer transfer window.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Lucas Chevalier is the subject of interest from FC Barcelona. The Catalan giants are scouring the market for a goalkeeper heading into the summer transfer window and have set their sights on the LOSC Lille mainstay. However, the Blaugrana will face stiff competition from Real Madrid for the French shot-stopper.
The rising stock of Lucas Chevalier
Lucas Chevalier has established himself as one of the best goalkeepers in Ligue 1 since breaking into the first-team squad at LOSC Lille. A native of Calais, the Frenchman spent his formative years in his homeland, passing through the academies at SC Coquelles and AS Marck before graduating from the youth division at LOSC Lille.
The 23-year-old broke into the first-team squad at LOSC Lille in the early stages of the 2022/23 season after making his mark on loan at Valenciennes FC in the 2021/22 campaign. Chevalier has turned out over 100 times thus far for Les Dogues while keeping 42 clean sheets and conceding 116 goals.
Meanwhile, Chevalier’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe. La Liga bigwigs, in particular, are keen on signing the French shot-stopper in the summer transfer window, with Barcelona and Real Madrid among the prospective suitors vying for his signature.
La Liga move on the horizon?
Lucas Chevalier has been on Barcelona’s radar for a long time. The continued interest makes sense, considering Marc-Andre ter Stegen has blown hot and cold in the last few seasons. In addition, Wojciech Szczesny is in the twilight of his career, while Inaki Pena might not be at the club beyond the summer transfer window. So, the LOSC Lille goalkeeper is a viable target for FC Barcelona.
As for Real Madrid, Thibaut Courtois is on the wrong side of 30, while Andriy Lunin faces an uncertain future at the Santiago Bernabeu amid his recent links with Manchester United. So, Los Blancos should pursue a goalkeeper in the summer transfer window, with Chevalier an option worth considering.
It is unclear how much the 23-year-old Frenchman will cost in the summer transfer window. While the report has claimed that Chevalier’s market value is around €30 million, it will not be surprising to see LOSC Lille asking for a premium to part ways with the French goalkeeper.
