The Carolina Panthers are a team starving to get back into playoff contention. In recent years, there has been an awful lot of disappointment.
While winning has not been happening for the Panthers recently, there are reasons to believe that could change.
Bryce Young took a big step forward during the 2024 season. He showed that he could end up being the franchise quarterback Carolina drafted him to be. There are other solid pieces in place, but the Panthers nee to have a good offseason.
Ahead of the NFL free agency tampering window opening today, Carolina made a big move. They were able to retain one of their own cornerstones long-term.
According to a report from ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter, the Panthers have agreed to a four-year, $100 million contract extension with star cornerback Jaycee Horn.
Not only did Carolina keep Horn on a long-term deal, he also became the highest-paid defensive back in NFL history.
"Sources: Jaycee Horn has agreed to a 4-year, $100M extension - ($108M max) - including $70M guaranteed with the Carolina Panthers. At $25M per year, Jaycee is now the highest-paid DB in NFL history. Deal negotiated by Trevon Smith and David Mulugheta."

Originally drafted with the No. 8 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft by the Panthers, Horn has developed into being a legitimate star.
During the 2024 NFL season, he ended up playing in 15 games, racking up 68 total tackles to go along with two sacks, an interception, and 13 defended passes.
At 25 years old, Horn will now be one of the main leaders of trying to take Carolina back to the playoffs.
