(The late) John Sillett’s Sky Blues that day lined up as follows:-
Steve Ogrizovic, Brian Borrows, Tony Dobson, Micky Gynn, Peter Billing, Trevor Peake, Kevin Gallacher, David Speedie, the late Cyrille Regis, Kevin Drinkell and David Smith
We are delighted to report that the Sky Blue ‘gaffer’ (whose recent passing the Sky Blue family has had to mourn) and the whole of this team later went on to sign up for CCFPA
Cloughie’s Forest team took to the field as follows:-
Steve Sutton, Brian Laws, Stuart Pearce, Des Walker, Terry Wilson, Brian Rice, Gary Crosby, Garry Parker (sub. Thomas Gaynor -46), Nigel Clough, David Currie and Þorvaldur Örlygsson (sub. Nigel Jemson -46) Referee:- P.Harrison
Forest and England’s Stuart Pearce, of course, began his professional career with the Sky Blues and is now a CCFPA member. Nigel Jemson had a brief loan spell at CCFC in 1995.
The Sky Blues finished the 1989-90 season in twelfth spot with Forest three places and five points better off. Though Aston Villa were often pace-setters they could only finish as runners up to Liverpool the eventual Champions.
Sheffield Wednesday, Charlton Athletic and bottom club Millwall got themselves relegated.
