Liverpool attacker Mohamed Salah left the Anfield pitch after the 3-1 victory against Southampton with an heartwarming gesture.
The Merseysiders continue their good run of games, maintaining their winning form, with the victory against the Saints in their 29th Premier League game of the 2024-25 season.
Accumulating 70 points from only 29 games, the Reds extended their lead at the top of the PL points table by 16 points. Second-placed Arsenal have played 27 games so far and amassed 54 points.
The Anfield side, hosting at their home, also maintained and extended their unbeaten PL run upto 25 games.
However, this all could’ve panned out very differently after the visitors took an unexpected lead right at the halftime mark from Will Smallbone’s goal that happened due to miscommunication between previous match’s hero Alisson Becker and skipper Virgil van Dijk.
But Southampton’s joy vanished really quickly after Darwin Nunez equalized at the 51st from Luis Diaz’s excellent dribble and assist.
Soon, LFC gained lead as Mohamed Salah scored from the penalty-spot at the 55th minute and he repeated the deed at the 88th minute to blow the final nail into the visitor’s coffin.
With these two goals, the Egyptian forward bettered his tally of PL goal involvement for this season to 44. He overtook Luis Suarez (43) to attain the new club record.
The 32-year-old equalled the feat with Thierry Henry and Erling Haaland. Salah also is now the third-highest goalscorer (243) for the Reds behind Ian Rush (346) and Roger Hunt (285).
Despite all these impressive statistics, it was something else that won the hearts of the Kopites after the Southampton win.

Mohamed Salah vs. Southampton: Ruthless yet humble
Many might think with all these mountainous records, Salah would have so much attitude and pride that he would distance himself from others.
But, to everyone’s surprise, he is the exact opposite of that perception and is the definition of humbleness and humility, he proved that after the final whistle blew on Saturday.
The man of the match was asked for a shirt swap by Saints player Albert Gronbæk. The latter thought that the LFC star would not do so.
However, surprising everyone, Salah chose to show appreciation and respect towards his opponent.
Even though the Red is on his way to become one of the best, if not the best PL player ever, he remains true to his identity and that is what Kopites love and adore about him.
