NFL Sources: Kansas City Chiefs guard Trey Smith becomes highest-paid at position

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV/KY3) - The Kansas City Chiefs’ Trey Smith became the NFL’s highest-paid guard with a freshly inked $23.4 million deal.

NFL insider Ian Rapoport took to X on Sunday night, March 9, to report that his sources say Chiefs Guard Trey Smith has signed a $23.4 million franchise tag on a 1-year, fully guaranteed deal. However, the team would still like to work out a long-term deal. The move officially makes Smith the NFL’s highest-paid guard.

Rapoport said the Chiefs had worked on this deal with Smith since late February. Smith, who originally entered the 2021 NFL draft as the 226th overall pick, will now enter his 5th season with the Chiefs.

This is the Chiefs’ second roster move as the ink on a $30 million deal with Linebacker Nick Bolton dries.
