Steph Curry Just Announced His Next Career Move in an Historic First

While he's not stepping away from the NBA just yet, Steph Curry has officially announced the next phase of his career, and it's naturally an historic first for the basketball star.

ESPN reports that Curry has accepted a role to become the assistant general manager of Davidson College's basketball programs. The move, at his alma mater, represents the first time an active player in a major U.S. sports league has taken an administrative job with the NCAA.

"The Davidson experience is top notch," Curry said in a statement to ESPN. "My journey from when I got to Davidson in 2006 to now demonstrated that I had the opportunity to play basketball at the highest level, got a great education, an amazing network through the Davidson alumni and continue to wave the Davidson flag. I want very talented, high character student athletes to have that same experience."

In the role, Curry will "provide guidance to the men's and women's teams based on his college and professional experience" according to ESPN, alongside General Manager Austin Buntz.

In addition to his job, Curry will team with his wife, Ayesha Curry, and Davidson College donors Don, Matt and Erica Berman, to create an "eight-figure fund for both the men and women's programs."

Curry played three seasons at Davidson from 2006–2009, racking up major accolades in the process. These include two-time Southern Conference Player of the Year, NCAA Tournament Midwest Regional MVP, and consensus All-American, before he was drafted by the Golden State Warriors in 2009. The school retired his No. 30 jersey in 2022.
