Gary Lineker throws in the towel over 'beyond depressing' Leicester City

Leicester City’s improved performance against Chelsea did not inspire Gary Lineker with the Match of the Day presenter “giving up” on the club’s survival.

City looked a stronger outfit at Stamford Bridge in defence, but still conceded to Marc Cucurella’s 20-yard drive, meaning it’s 24 games in all competitions without a clean sheet.

Plus, their struggles to create chances continued, Ruud van Nistelrooy’s side mustering just three shots.

They’ve scored in just five of van Nistelrooy’s 15 Premier League fixtures in charge, failing to find the net in any of their last five.

In all, City are six points from safety with 10 games to go, and Lineker is throwing in the towel.

“Twelve defeats in their last 13 Premier League games for Leicester, it’s beyond depressing,” Lineker said on The Rest is Football podcast.

“We can’t score a goal to save our lives. We can’t keep a clean sheet. It’s pretty, pretty grim.”

Asked if he was conceding, Lineker sarcastically replied: “Foxes never quit until it’s mathematically possible. Now I’m speaking like a manager.”

He then added: “Of course I’m giving up. I’ve lost all hope. It’s a struggle.”

Lineker’s feeling will be echoed by plenty of supporters, especially with their upcoming fixtures.

City host Manchester United next time out but then have a run of games against top-half sides in Manchester City, Newcastle, Brighton, and Liverpool.

Meanwhile, Wolves, the team they’re hunting down, have a streak of five matches against bottom-half opponents in Southampton, West Ham, Ipswich, Tottenham and United.
