Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliott has opened up about his encounter with jubilant Reds fans at a local Sainsbury's following his dramatic late goal against Paris Saint-Germain.
The 21-year-old had just popped in for some basics, including toilet roll, when he found himself swamped by supporters just days after netting an 87th-minute winner at the Parc Des Princes. Elliott said that fans were keen to express their gratitude for his vital contribution, coming off the bench to secure last week's 1-0 triumph.
The win puts Liverpool in the driving seat for the Champions League round of 16 return leg at Anfield on Tuesday night. Reflecting on his post-match interactions, Elliott also disclosed a touching exchange he had with supporters held back in the stands during his warm down.
"It was a great feeling walking back out when the Liverpool fans were still in the stadium," the young midfielder told ex-Manchester United and Wrexham shot-stopper Ben Foster. "Hearing them singing and having that moment with the fans, it was just such a lovely feeling.
"These are pinch me moments where you think to yourself, 'is it really happening?' I had my mum calling me after the game, I had my dad calling me, and they were all crying out of happiness. I didn't understand the magnitude of that goal."
"I went to Sainsbury's yesterday, and there were Liverpool fans there. I wanted to go in and get some milk and toilet roll, and it literally took me about half an hour. It just sums up the fans. It's a massive club, the fans are so passionate and it makes you want to embrace and experience these moments more."

Despite the thrilling encounter in Paris, Elliott found himself on the bench for Liverpool’s 3-1 victory over Southampton on Saturday. Liverpool's head coach later conceded that not starting him might have been an oversight.
Slot said: "It is always a difficult decision not to start Harvey, not to start Wata (Wataru Endo), not to start all the other ones I don't play. But if someone comes in for five minutes, touches his first ball and scores a goal and then you change your whole idea about all the line-ups you made before, that would be a bit out of line - a bit weird as well.
"He got 45 minutes today because he did so well in Paris. But there's also a reason why I played so many times the other ones and all the time they deserved that trust. But today, if I could do it one more time over, I would have started it differently than I started today...but you don't know this in advance."
