Newcastle could look to once again try and sign Dominic Calvert-Lewin as Everton go in hunt of a new striker.

Calvert-Lewin looks likely to leave Everton with his contract set to expire at the end of the season.

Newcastle hold a long-standing interest in the 27-year-old, who is currently unavailable to David Moyes due to injury.

Calvert-Lewin isn’t the only Everton player out of contract this summer, with other high-profile stars such as Abdoulaye Doucouré also set to leave the Toffees when their deals run out in June.

And it looks as though Moyes is already preparing for life without Calvert-Lewin, which could encourage Newcastle to make a fresh approach for the Englishman.

Moyes hunting a new striker at Everton

As reported by Africafoot (8 March), Everton are one of several European clubs who have expressed their interest in signing Rangers striker Hamza Igamane.

In addition, Tammy Abraham is also a target for Everton, and the Toffees have already made contact with the striker’s entourage [CaughtOffside].

And ex-Goodison scout Bryan King – speaking exclusively to Goodison News – has suggested that Newcastle could come in for Calvert-Lewin if he is to move on this summer.

“I think the first thing Calvert-Lewin needs to do is get himself fit,” King said.

“It will be interesting to see what happens at Newcastle United, because I’m sure they could look to make a move for Calvert-Lewin. I believe Eddie Howe likes the player.

“First of all, Calvert-Lewin needs to get himself back playing and prove his worth in the coming months.”

Everton need to make Calvert-Lewin decision

Time is running out for Everton to offer Calvert-Lewin a new contract at Goodison Park.

Therefore, if the Toffees want to keep hold of the forward, they will need to step up negotiations soon. However, the constant reports linking Everton with a new striker suggest that Calvert-Lewin might already have one foot out the door.

As a result, that could be music to Newcastle’s ears.
