Former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson terrified six of his former players and was described with one particular moniker by a Red Devils legend.

Sir Alex Ferguson is one of the best managers of all time and the 83-year-old Manchester United legend ushered in an incredible period of success at the club.

The legendary ex-Aberdeen and United boss hoovered up the major silverware at Old Trafford, including lifting 13 Premier League titles and two Champions Leagues.

During his time at the Premier League club, United legend Ferguson famously led the Red Devils to an iconic continental treble in the memorable 1998-99 season.

Ferguson’s tenure as United manager, which began in 1986 with his arrival from Aberdeen, ended in 2013 after he called it time on his legendary career.

The legendary Scotsman put the fear in his ex-United players and Ferguson wasn’t shy of dropping his infamous ‘hairdryer treatment’ on different footballers.

David Beckham emerged to prominence under former United manager Ferguson in the 1990s after he rose through the ranks of the Red Devils youth academy.

The 49-year-old United and England legend became an important first-team player at Old Trafford and was one of the breakout ‘Class of ‘92’ stars at the club.

David Beckham revealed that himself and fellow Class of ’92 stars Nicky Butt, Ryan Giggs, Gary Neville, Phil Neville and Paul Scholes were “very scared” of Ferguson.

The ex-England captain also christened former United manager Ferguson with the nickname of the “Godfather,” which didn’t describe him in a “good way.”

“Not in a bad way but we were all very scared of him,” Beckham told BBC Breakfast in 2015, as per the Manchester Evening News.

Speaking on the Class of ’92, Beckham showered the achievements of his former United teammates and said that they achieved what they did “as friends.”

“We did it and won everything in football – it does not get any better than that,” he said.

David Beckham made big admission about Man Utd exit

David Beckham has spoken highly of Ferguson and previously called him a ‘father figure,’ but his relationship with the United legend fractured towards the end of his spell.

The former United superstar left Old Trafford after a falling out with Ferguson and Beckham went on to sign for La Liga club Real Madrid in 2003 for a £24.5m fee.

Speaking to St Johns Wood United Synagogue in north London in 2023, Beckham said (via The Athletic): “I always felt I would start my career at Manchester United and end my career at Manchester United.

“I had no intention of leaving at any point and I didn’t want to play for any other club.

“For the next three years [after leaving], I couldn’t even watch United on television.

“Being at United, and supporting them, for as long as I had, it was obviously upsetting.”

United legend Beckham lifted six Premier League titles, a Champions League trophy and two FA Cups during his prolific playing spell at Old Trafford.
