Right before the start of NFL free agency, a lot of big names got taken off the market. Former Las Vegas Raiders star Khalil Mack is 34 now but he's had three very strong seasons since joining the Los Angeles Chargers.
Following the news that they released Joey Bosa, it seemed like there was a good chance they'd pay to keep Mack. That's exactly what happened.
According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Mack and the Chargers have agreed to a one-year contract that will pay him $18 million fully guaranteed. That's a strong payday for the former Defensive Player of the Year.
Mack will likely be taking his career year by year at this point. There was talk of him possibly retiring after the 2024 season but he's clearly got some juice left in the tank.
The Chargers seem to think so as $18 million guaranteed is a healthy payday. In three seasons with Los Angeles, Mack has 31.0 sacks and 39 tackles for loss. He has also only missed one game and remains very durable. The Chargers need him to have another good season now that Bosa is out of the building. The team may be aggressive in trying to add more pass rushing talent this offseason to pair with Mack.
