Liverpool unlikely to pursue Serie A star

Liverpool will hope to reach the last eight of the Champions League when they face Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday.

The Reds go into the second leg at Anfield with a 1-0 win from the first leg of the tie, and Arne Slot’s side are therefore favourites to progress into the quarter-finals.

They could face Premier League rivals Aston Villa in the last eight if they get that far, with the Villans boasting a 3-1 lead over Club Brugge ahead of their second leg tie on Wednesday.

In the meantime, it has emerged that Liverpool are unlikely to pursue a Serie A star this summer.

According to GiveMeSport’s Ben Jacobs, the Premier League leaders aren’t likely to make a move for AC Milan forward Rafael Leao this summer and will instead look to sign a player who is proven in the English top flight.

Leao, 25, has established himself as one of the best attacking players in Europe over the past few seasons, having joined Milan from French side Lille in 2019.

Leao is unlikely to be the subject of an offer from Liverpool this summer

In total he has played 249 times for the Italian club across all competitions, scoring 68 goals and providing 54 assists.

The report claims that Leao has never pushed for a move away from his current club, and a move this summer could therefore prove tricky.

Liverpool, meanwhile, haven’t made contact with the Portugal international yet and those in charge of the club’s recruitment are said to be considering their options as they look to bolster Slot’s squad in attack.

It is claimed that Liverpool could look to sign a striker with experience of the Premier League, and Brighton and Hove Albion striker Joao Pedro is said to be on their shortlist of potential targets.

Leao is under contract with Milan until the end of the 2027/28 campaign.
