Arsenal are plotting a potential big-money move to sign Newcastle star Bruno Guimaraes ahead of the summer transfer window.

That is according to former Man United and Sunderland chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that Mikel Arteta’s side are set to prioritise the signing of a new midfielder.

However, Newcastle are extremely reluctant to let their star players leave the club this summer and have no plans to let the 27-year-old leave St James’ Park.

Arsenal have also been looking at Alexander Isak, but the Magpies are standing firm in their stance against selling key players and plan to price him out of a move.

Arteta is looking to strengthen his squad after his team’s stuttering form in the latter stages of this season, as they prepare for a renewed title challenge in the 2025/26 season.

Guimaraes has emerged as one of the key targets to strengthen in midfield and is very highly-rated at the Emirates and could capitalise on their financial difficulties to complete a deal.

Arsenal told Newcastle’s stance on Bruno Guimaraes deal

Football Insider revealed in November that Newcastle will not sell Guimaraes and are unwilling to enter talks about his possible departure as he remains a crucial player.

Brown, who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment after over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, insisted that Arsenal remain interested despite Newcastle’s stance and could make a move this summer.

“*Bruno Guimaraes is one Arsenal have been considering,”* he told Football Insider.

“The PSR issues at Newcastle could play a part if they are still struggling to spend money.

“On paper, Newcastle do not want to lose any of their top players this summer, they want to keep them at the club and build around them to become a top side.

“But if they’re limited in their spending, they won’t be able to build around those players.

“If it means cashing in on a major player to strengthen the rest of their squad, they could be forced into it.

“In any case though, it would take a lot of money to get a deal done.

“Guimaraes is one of those players who would fit into most teams in the country.

“He would slot in nicely alongside Declan Rice at Arsenal, who I think is a Rolls Royce, and create a really formidable midfield.

*“They’re going to be looking to win the league next year and that would provide some solid foundations on top of what is a really good defensive unit.*“

Mikel Arteta and Andrea Berta plan summer overhaul

A new central midfielder is expected to be near the top of Arsenal’s list of targets as both Thomas Partey and Jorginho look set to move on in the summer as things stand.

However, following the imminent appointment of Andrea Berta at Arsenal, there are multiple positions in Arteta’s team which have been earmarked for improvement.

One of those key positions is at striker, where Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus are no longer being backed to lead the line for the majority of the season.

Instead, Arsenal want to sign Benjamin Sesko and are prepared to rival Tottenham as they could trigger his £58million release clause at RB Leipzig.
