Damascus 10 March 2025 — Contrary to reports circulating in the social media and in some international media outlets, the United Nations has not deployed any fact-finding or investigative mission to the Syrian coastal area. Such missions can only be mandated by the UN Human Rights Council or the UN Security Council.
The UN’s efforts on the ground remain focused on providing life-saving humanitarian assistance to those in need, while ensuring the safety and security of UN personnel, humanitarian partners and their dependents. The United Nations operates in strict adherence to humanitarian principles, maintaining neutrality, impartiality, and independence in all its actions.
The UN remains committed to addressing humanitarian needs with transparency and accuracy, and it urges all actors to rely on verified information when reporting on its activities. That said, I strongly condemn the violence that has so far claimed the lives of many civilians and call on all parties to show restraint and refrain from targeting civilians and civilian infrastructure.
