Liverpool had another good weekend in the Premier League, moving 15 points clear of second-placed Arsenal.
The Reds have still played one more game than their nearest rivals, but are looking good to win a 20th league title in May.
It hadn’t always looked like it was going to be so rosy. Liverpool were poor during a disappointing opening 45 minutes against Southampton and fell one goal behind.
But the Reds came back strongly in the second-half, with Trent Alexander-Arnold one of their better performers all game long.
Alexander-Arnold looks set to leave Liverpool at the end of the season, with a free transfer move to Real Madrid becoming more likely with each passing day.
However, some Reds supporters thought there may have been a positive sign that Trent could yet stay, with the right-back conducting a post-match interview for the first time in what feels like forever. According to journalist David Lynch, though, nothing should be read into his decision to speak to the press.

Trent Alexander-Arnold interview hope dismissed
Trawling through the LFCTV back catalogue, it is not unreasonable that Liverpool fans should have taken hope from Alexander-Arnold’s surprise appearance on Saturday.
Amazingly, the last time the 26-year-old spoke to Liverpool’s in-house media team following a game was way back in April 2024, after the Reds crashed out of the Europa League at Atalanta.

He has done sit down interviews since, but even then his last one was not for over three months, on December 3rd. Given that Alexander-Arnold is the vice-captain, he really should be speaking publicly more than this.
You can understand why some have felt that Trent being back on the microphone was a good sign in that respect. However, speaking on Anfield Index, Lynch suggests that nothing should be read into it.

“I’m not sure he did do media duties outside of LFCTV,” the journalist points out. “I think it might only have been LFCTV he did which is a pretty gentle underarm one, they’re never going to ask him about his contact situation.
“So, I wouldn’t read too much into that one unfortunately. I just think that’s a case of they needed someone to do LFCTV and he’s a prime candidate for that given he can’t do any other media at the moment because the obvious question of his future would come up.”
What did Alexander-Arnold say during his interview?
Whether you believe Alexander-Arnold’s appearance was simply fulfilling duties or a sign of something else, it was great to see him back speaking about Liverpool.
The No.66 did not say anything ground-breaking during the 3 minute 40 second interview, but he did admit that Arne Slot was the most animated he’d ever seen him at half-time of the game.
“Probably the most [animated] we’ve seen him so far,” Trent smiled. “I guess it’s a good thing that he’s not been too animated so far but rightly so, it wasn’t good enough, we deserved to be down I suppose.
“But we came out second-half with a point to prove and did that really early on.”
Alexander-Arnold also hailed Liverpool’s ability to grind out the points while also commenting on Mohamed Salah drawing level with Sergio Aguero in the Premier League’s all-time top scorers list.
