Expert: Liverpool plan to accept loan offer for Klopp favourite

Mick Brown

Liverpool are prepared to let Jarell Quansah leave the club on loan this summer in an effort to secure improved playing time.

That is according to former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that the 22-year-old has fallen out of favour under Arne Slot.

However, they are reluctant to see him leave permanently as there is still a feeling that he has yet to realise his full potential at the club.

Quansah made 34 appearances under Jurgen Klopp in the 2023/24 season, with 28 of those coming from the start, but has started just 10 of his 20 appearances under Slot.

Meanwhile, Football Insider revealed on 28 February that Liverpool want to sign a new centre-back this summer regardless of the future of Virgil van Dijk.

Crystal Palace star Marc Guehi is one of Liverpool’s targets, while Slot is an admirer of Bournemouth’s Dean Huijsen after his impressive season at the Vitality Stadium.

As a result, Quansah is expected to struggle for game time next season and could be given the opportunity to play regular football elsewhere.

Jarell Quansah to leave Liverpool as Arne Slot lines up new arrival

Brown told Football Insider on 18 February that Liverpool are concerned about the inconsistent performances of Ibrahima Konate and have begun looking for a replacement.

Now, the former scout who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment after over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, has insisted the plans to sign a replacement for Konate could force Quansah out.

“Liverpool are planning to sign a new centre-back,” he told Football Insider.

“But if they do that, you have to ask questions about where Quansah fits in.

“He’s been their third or fourth choice centre-half for the last couple of years and has come into the side, but that hasn’t happened as much this season.

“If they’re looking at the likes of Marc Guehi coming in, it’s only going to push him further down the pecking order.

“So if they’re not going to rely on Quansah to come into the team, he’s going to question his role.

“It’s definitely possible that he leaves the club on loan in the summer.

“Liverpool like him and think he’s got a lot of potential so they won’t want to let him leave permanently, so a loan could be best for all parties.

“It will allow him to get more regular game time and potentially come into their first-team plans when he returns.”

Arne Slot eyes Milos Kerkez deal after Bournemouth latest

Alongside the addition of a new centre-back at Anfield, Slot is planning to strengthen at left-back as well amid questions about Andy Robertson’s performances.

Fulham star Antonee Robinson has been heavily linked with the move, but Football Insider revealed that Milos Kerkez is Liverpool’s top target.

The Bournemouth star has impressed with his performances at the Vitality Stadium so far this season and has become one of the most highly-rated young full-backs in the league.

Kerkez, who is also under contract until 2028, has hit three goals and notched five assists in 31 games across all competitions this term.
