San Francisco's Union Square Welcomes b. Patisserie Kiosk as Part of Downtown Economic Revival

Mayor Daniel Lurie announced that renowned b. Patisserie is putting down roots with more than just their buttery pastries. In a move aimed at energizing downtown, a kiosk in the bustling plaza will serve up treats like their coveted kouign-amann, offering a boost to the local economy and a treat for visitors and locals alike. This decision comes after the bakery's winning run during NBA All-Star Weekend and the record-safe Chinese New Year Parade, as per the San Francisco Recreation and Parks Department.

The area is witnessing a resurgence, with companies like Databricks and Strava expanding downtown. The local government is aiding this revival, streamlining permits with PermitSF and safeguarding the neighborhood through a new police task force. As proposed by Mayor Lurie, legislation is in the works to convert empty offices into housing and add more liquor licenses to support nightlife. According to the San Francisco Recreation and Parks Department, Mayor Lurie expressed, "b. Patisserie’s arrival in Union Square is a clear example of the momentum we’re building in downtown San Francisco."

Baking duo Belinda Leong and Michel Suas, the talents behind b. Patisserie, are answering the city's call for confectionery by leasing a café kiosk at 350 Powell Street, poised to open by late March. The kiosk will stand as a one-year installation with plans for a permanent tenant to follow. "San Francisco has always been good to me, and Belinda was born and raised here," Suas told the San Francisco Recreation and Parks Department, emphasizing their commitment to the community. Similarly, Leong added, "We’re excited to offer something delicious and convenient for everyone who works, lives, or visits Union Square."
