Old Trafford
Manchester United showcased a new dimension to their game last night under Ruben Amorim against Arsenal as they sat back, soaked the pressure and managed to hold off the Gunners to a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford.
It was one of those performances that needed a lot of resilience but this is not the direction the club would want to go in.
News –After failed bid, Man Utd told £41.9million will finally get signing done
Amorim made a name for himself at Sporting CP by deploying an extremely attractive brand of football but without the players to recreate the same system in Manchester, he was forced to be defensive against the might of Arsenal but one would not expect him to do the same next season.
The upcoming summer transfer window provides the Portuguese tactician with an opportunity to sign players who would fit into his tactical setup but one would have to say that Man Utd will have to make some big sales to create the funds for potential signings for the upcoming season.
Now, as per Caught Offside, London rivals Chelsea prepare to advance to sign talented Man United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo. An academy graduate, the English midfielder is one of the few silver linings in a very tumultuous period for the historic club.
Mainoo being an academy graduate would help Man Utd generate pure profit if the club decided to sell him. Valued at around £80million, should Chelsea be willing to pay anything close to that amount, it would be a huge sale for the Red Devils and one that they won’t possibly be able to refuse.
Should Man Utd sell Mainoo to Chelsea?
Having had a stellar breakthrough campaign under Erik ten Hag last season, Mainoo has somewhat gone off the boil this campaign with injuries preventing him from building on the previous campaign.
The change of managers and the subsequent change of system have not helped the English youngster either.
Chelsea have been cash-rich in recent seasons and aren’t afraid to open out their cheque books. If they want to sign Mainoo, they will need to pay a significant fee to sign him and this bodes very well for the Red Devils.
However, would they be able to part ways with one of their most talented youngsters and not lose a minute’s sleep over it?
Man Utd find themselves in a situation (completely from their own doing) where they will have to make difficult decisions come the summer. Selling Mainoo might be one of them that has to be made and let’s wait and see how it plays out.
