€80 million-rated Liverpool star open to joining La Liga giants

Liverpool’s attacking star Darwin Nunez is open to a potential move to Diego Simeone’s Atlético Madrid next summer.

Darwin Nunez could end up parting ways with Liverpool after the end of the ongoing season. The Uruguayan international seeks a change and according to a report from SkySports, he is open to a move to Atletico Madrid, who have been linked with him of late.

The Reds forked out a massive fee to sign Nunez from Benfica in the summer of 2022. While he did have an impressive start to life at Anfield, the 25-year-old hasn’t been consistent enough.

Things have gone from bad to worse for him under Arne Slot, as he has received constant criticism from the Dutch manager. While his contract with the Merseyside club runs until the summer of 2027, there are a lot of question marks about his future at the club.

He is not really loving life at Anfield and is also getting tired of the gloomy English climate. The Uruguayan international reportedly wants to move to a place with a culture similar to his own. Multiple top clubs are keeping a close eye on his situation as he seems open to a move away in the summer.

Darwin Nunez to join Atletico?

Atletico Madrid are one of the clubs that are very alert to his situation. Diego Simeone’s team are looking to prepare for life without Antoine Griezmann who is in the final phase of his career. They feel Nunez could end up being a great replacement in the long run.

He could form a great partnership with Julian Alvarez in the final third. While he has all the qualities to succeed at the Spanish club and is also keen on joining them, Atletico are yet to make a move to sign him. Despite the players’ willingness, the discussions are not yet in an advanced stage. The player is unlikely to make a decision on his future until the end of the campaign.

Meanwhile, Liverpool won’t let him go on the cheap. While he hasn’t really lived up to the expectations and Slot isn’t please with his efforts, they haven’t given up on him just yet. They won’t let him go for anything less than €80 million.
