The Green Bay Packers have been hard at work with the legal tampering period of NFL free agency opening. Their latest move saw them sign former Las Vegas Raiders cornerback Nate Hobbs for a four-year, $48 million contract, and it sounds like he's fired up to be joining his new team.
After getting selected in the fifth round of the 2021 NFL draft, Hobbs gradually found his way into the Raiders starting lineup, becoming a key piece of their secondary as a result. The competition for Hobbs' signature was high, with the Packers eventually coming out on top, bringing him to town to shore up their secondary.
"Sources: The Packers are expected to sign former Raiders CB Nate Hobbs to a 4-year, $48M contract," Ari Meirov of The 33rd Team reported in a post on X.
With star cornerback Jaire Alexander potentially headed out the door this offseason, it was vital for the Packers to get help at the backend of their defense. Enter Hobbs, who said he's "ecstatic" to be joining Green Bay, while also noting his time spent playing against star quarterbacks in the AFC West should help him as he joins his new squad.
"I'm ecstatic. It has not sunk in yet. I'm still dumbfounded by the opportunity, and I am ready to get to work. Being with the Raiders in that division and facing those quarterbacks, I feel like I'm ready for anything (in the NFC North) and I am going in with a lot of confidence. It prepared me for this," Hobbs said to Josina Anderson in a phone call shortly after he made his decision.

In 11 games with the Raiders in 2024, Hobbs recorded 49 tackles, one interception, and five passes defended. While an agreement is in place, the deal won't become official until March 12 at 4 p.m. EST, which is when the new league year gets underway.
