One of head coach Mike Vrabel’s previous quarterbacks will be joining him in Foxborough.
The New England Patriots signed veteran backup Joshua Dobbs to a two-year deal on Monday, as first announced by agent Mike McCartney of VaynerSports. According to NFL Media’s Tom Pelissero, the $8 million agreement features $3.8 million fully guaranteed.
Dobbs, 30, becomes the third quarterback under contract with the organization alongside rising sophomores Drake Maye and Joe Milton III. Fellow veteran Jacoby Brissett, a team captain in 2024, checks in as an unrestricted free agent.
Since entering the NFL in the fourth round of the 2017 class at No. 135 overall, Dobbs has appeared in 23 games and made 15 starts. The Tennessee Volunteers product spent this past campaign with the San Francisco 49ers.
His prior stops included the Pittsburgh Steelers, Jacksonville Jaguars, Cleveland Browns, Detroit Lions, Tennessee Titans, Arizona Cardinals and Minnesota Vikings.
Dobbs has completed 344-of-549 passes for 3,281 yards with 17 touchdowns and 15 interceptions during his run in the league. The 6-foot-3, 220-pound quarterback has added 520 yards and eight visits to the end zone as a rusher.
The legal tampering window opened Monday at 12 p.m. ET. The official start of the new league year will follow Wednesday at 4 p.m. ET.
