Alan Shearer says what every Newcastle United fan is thinking after beating West Ham

Alan Shearer is delighted after Newcastle United’s 1-0 win over West Ham United.

This was a huge game for Newcastle United, as they aimed to build up some momentum for the looming Carabao Cup final.

They did exactly that, as Newcastle beat West Ham 1-0 at the London Stadium.

Bruno Guimaraes scored the winner in the second half, lifting the Magpies up to sixth place in the Premier League table.

It is a huge result ahead of Sunday’s Carabao Cup final against Liverpool, while it is also a huge result when it comes to the race for Champions League qualification.

Multiple big Newcastle United performances ahead of Carabao Cup final

Heading into the Carabao Cup final, the mood on Tyneside has been bleak.

With Anthony Gordon’s suspension and Lewis Hall’s injury, there has not been much for the Toon Army to celebrate ahead of the game at Wembley.

But that win against West Ham gives Newcastle hope. Of course, Eddie Howe’s side will play against a much stronger side on Sunday, but to dig in away from home and pick up three points and a clean sheet is massive.

Bruno Guimaraes got the winner, and it was a captain’s performance from the Brazil international. He was given the player of the match award by Sky Sports, and rightly so.

But he was not the only Toon player to shine. Sandro Tonali was outstanding, while Joelinton also added real physicality to the middle of the park.

Defensively, the Magpies were resolute, while Harvey Barnes will hope he has done enough to earn a place in the starting XI after being handed a surprise start.

As Shearer says, it is a massive win. Newcastle now have momentum that they can take into the final, as they aim to end their incredible trophy drought.
