NBA Makes Trae Young Announcement Before 76ers-Hawks

Atlanta Hawks point guard Trae Young capped off an excellent week in the NBA with a 36-point, eight-assist game in a 120-118 win over the Indiana Packers on Saturday.

Over the Hawks' last four games, Young is averaging 24.5 points and 13.0 assists per game. His No. 7 seed Atlanta squad went 3-1 over that stretch, improving the team's record to 30-34.

Young's stellar play was recognized by the league on Monday. The NBA announced the 26-year-old point guard as the Week 20 Eastern Conference Player of the Week, alongside Western Conference Player of the Week Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.

"Oklahoma City Thunder guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Atlanta Hawks guard Trae Young have been named the NBA Western and Eastern Conference Players of the Week, respectively, for Week 20 of the 2024-25 season (March 3-9)," the league wrote in an announcement on X.

In his seventh NBA season with the Hawks, Young is averaging 23.8 points and a league-leading 11.5 assists per game. The four-time All-Star is shooting 40.4% from the field, 32.5% from behind the three-point arc and 86.7% from the free-throw line.

This Eastern Conference Player of the Week announcement came just before the Hawks' matchup against the Philadelphia 76ers on Monday night. Despite high expectations heading into the 2024-25 season, the 76ers currently hold the No. 11 spot in the Eastern Conference with a 22-41 record.

Monday's matchup between the 76ers and Hawks will tipoff at 7:30 p.m. EST from Atlanta's State Farm Arena.
