Jaguars sign Dyami Brown: Full details and grade

The Jacksonville Jaguars were just about to release wide receiver Christian Kirk -- until they didn't.

Then, the trade to the Houston Texans came. Jacksonville was able to get that contract off the books, but they still needed to find another wide receiver to ultimately take his place.

Parker Washington and Gabe Davis might not cut it, so at the very least, depth was needed after letting Kirk go. When the NFL's legal tampering period opened up on Monday, [that's where the Jaguars went relatively early](https://blackandteal.com/jaguars-reinforce-the-receiver-corps-with-the-dyami-brown-free-agent-signing-01jp0q5n5gss).

The Jaguars agreed to sign Dyami Brown in a move that won't move the needle

Former Washington Commanders wide receiver [Dyami Brown agreed to a 1-year contract](https://x.com/mikegarafolo/status/1899174025038897170?s=46) with the Jaguars on Monday afternoon; a deal worth $10 million. The contract has potential to reach up to $12 million in total.

Gut reaction? This move gets a C+ in terms of a grade.

Brown isn't exactly an upgrade over Kirk, but he's also not being paid as a true upgrade at the position.

This past season, Brown caught 30 passes in Washington for 308 yards and a touchdown.

The former third-round pick out of North Carolina was supposed to be a much more useful weapon, but to this point in his career, that hasn't exactly panned out to be the case. He did have a couple of eye-popping plays as a Commander last year, but his production has been sporadic at best.

This offense is going to run through Brian Thomas Jr., of course, as we have learned from new head coach Liam Coen and his staff. So, it isn't like Brown will serve in a huge role (or so we think, right now).

He is valuable depth and someone who can play a role as a solid WR3, but is he good enough to be a WR2? Not quite.

With a rising salary cap, this move doesn't look _too much_ like an overpay. But, it's still a good chunk of money for someone with such low production.
