Mike Jackson, Carolina Panthers, Agree to Contract

After spending most of the offseason with the Seattle Seahawks, the Carolina Panthers acquired him prior to Week 1 in exchange for rookie linebacker Michael Barrett. This proved to be a great move on Carolina’s part, as the longtime journeyman turned into one of the better players on the Panthers defense. Starting in all 17 games, Jackson finished the season with two interceptions, 17 passes defended, 76 tackles, three tackles-for-loss, and a 68.0 PFF grade, the 43rd-best mark of 116 eligible players. Despite his efforts, Carolina missed the playoffs but showed some life down the stretch with a resurgent Bryce Young leading the charge.

Mike Jackson originally entered the league as a fifth-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. Selected by the Dallas Cowboys, Jackson couldn’t make the Week 1 roster and spent most of his rookie season off the field. While he eventually appeared in one game for the Detroit Lions, he didn’t record a single statistic.

The 2020 and 2021 seasons were more of the same. Jackson bounced between the New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks, but only played in three games over that two-year stretch. He finally earned a real opportunity in 2022 and made it count. Starting in all 17 games for the Seahawks, Jackson recorded one interception, 12 passes defended, 75 tackles, three tackles-for-loss, one quarterback hit, and a 58.4 PFF grade.

Mike Jackson returned to Seattle in 2023 in a reduced role. While he only made four starts, he still appeared in all 17 games while recording five passes defended, 34 tackles, two tackles-for-loss, and a 77.0 PFF grade.

Since signing his rookie contract, Mike Jackson has recorded three interceptions, 36 passes defended, 188 tackles, eight tackles-for-loss, and one quarterback hit.
