Former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Kenny Pickett traded to Cleveland Browns

Former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Kenny Pickett is back in the AFC North. Pickett is heading to the Cleveland Browns for a fifth-round pick and Dorian Thompson-Robinson in return.

The Browns have questions at quarterback. While they hold the second overall pick and could take a quarterback, Deshaun Watson is unlikely to be ready for the start of the season after re-tearing his Achilles.

Watson’s injury threw everything for a loop, but it gives the Browns a chance to either draft a quarterback or let someone like Pickett play snaps.

Pickett was Jalen Hurts' back up this year with the Philadelphia Eagles, throwing for 291 yards and two touchdowns in his one start. The Eagles were Pickett’s childhood team growing up, and he got to win a Super Bowl with them. Pickett even entered late in the game when the Eagles were crushing the Kansas City Chiefs.

Over his career, Pickett has played in 30 games, throwing for 4786 yards, 15 touchdowns, and 14 interceptions. The Steelers' first-round pick out of Pitt in the 2022 NFL Draft, Pickett was heralded as a player who could help turn around the franchise after playing next door at the UPMC Rooney Sports Complex.

Pickett has a path to playing time in Cleveland and will all but surely enter the last year of his rookie contract when Cleveland turns down his fifth-year option.
