I haven't been at my best, admits Jota

Diogo Jota has admitted it has been a 'difficult season' after struggling with fitness issues that have hampered his form.

The Liverpool forward has been stymied with injuries that have seen him miss 15 games and suffer and lose his place as the club's starting striker.

The Portugal international has only clocked 1351 minutes this season - the 16th-most in the squad - but is confident he will rediscover his form in the final months of the season, with The Reds targeting three trophies.

Speaking ahead of the Champions League round of 16 second-leg against PSG, he said: "It’s been a difficult season for me personally. I had a few complications throughout the season. Obviously these last couple of months are the ones that matter the most, where you decide things.

"I don’t feel I’m on my best form at the moment but certainly by playing I will get there. And I always try to do my best, no matter what."

The 28-year-old, like most of the side, struggled in the first leg at the Parc des Princes last week and was withdrawn on the hour.

Tomorrow will mark four years since his last goal in the Champions League.

Asked when he was last playing his best football, he added: "I don’t know, obviously sometimes you can have bad games, sometimes you can also have good games when you get the form you are talking about, it’s like when you have a certain amount of games.

"I think in the end, as long as you keep being useful to the team, that’s the most important thing.

"Sometimes not only the stats, but the way you can connect to your teammates and the way you can help the team defensively and how you can help the team get the win, that’s what I try to do every time I’m on the pitch.

"But obviously as a striker I want to get involved in scoring goals, creating those opportunities, and every game is a new opportunity to do that."

Slot: We need our best performance of the season

Arne Slot believes Liverpool need to produce their best performance of the season to progress to the competition's quarter-finals.

The Premier League leaders head into tomorrow's clash at Anfield with a 1-0 lead, courtesy of Harvey Elliott's 87th minute smash-and-grab winner in the French capital, which saw The Reds register their fewest goal attempts on record in the Champions League.

PSG are 13 matches unbeaten away from home, including each of their last three in the Champions League.

"This is the most complete team we've faced so far," Slot, who has been boosted by the return of Cody Gakpo, said.

"What I mean by complete – and OK, we've faced Arsenal and [Manchester] City and it's not that there are big margins – but the intensity they've played at combined with the quality they have... they have so much quality and a great, great, great manager.

"He lets the team play in a way that is not easy to play against his team; he brings the best out of every player and he brings an incredible work-rate into the team. That's why I think we have to be at our best tomorrow. "

The Dutchman will not set the team up defensively and insisted tomorrow will be 'different' to the first leg.

He added: "We try to play every game [to] try to win – that's also what we tried to do last week. It wasn't our intention to be so low all the time.

"We wanted to have a different game than we played over there but sometimes the other teams, with the help of their fans, we both saw what happened. Tomorrow we want to play a different game but our intention is always the same. We're not going to go for a draw."
