The Denver Broncos owned one of the best defenses in the NFL last season, but that's not going to stop them from building and improving their defense in the offseason.
Denver has been looking for an elite middle linebacker since Danny Trevathan left them after Super Bowl 50 in 2016 and they have found one.
According to Jordan Schultz of Fox Sports, the Broncos are signing former San Francisco 49ers middle linebacker, Dre Greenlaw.
It will be a three-year deal worth $35 million, per Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network.
The 49ers drafted Greenlaw in the fifth round of the 2019 NFL Draft and became a key piece to their defense.
In 2022 and 2023, Greenlaw appeared in 15 games in each season and racked up 247 tackles, eight tackles for loss, and four quarterback hits. The former Arkansas Razorback also had 10 pass deflections.
Unfortunately, in the 2024 Super Bowl against the Kansas City Chiefs, Greenlaw ran onto the field late in the game and suffered a lower leg injury that would later be confirmed as a torn Achilles.
Missing nearly the entire 2024 season, Greenlaw was activated off the reserve/PUP list in Week 15 against the Los Angeles Rams. In that game, he had eight tackles and just one tackle the following week.
With the Broncos landing Greenlaw, they will now pair him up with veteran linebacker, Alex Singleton, who is recovering from a torn ACL, or Drew Sanders, who is entering his third season in the NFL.
