The Los Angeles Clippers were forced to play on Sunday night without the services of head coach Ty Lue. This is after the veteran shot-caller had to leave Intuit Dome right before their game against the Sacramento Kings tipped off.
Lue was unable to coach his team due to a back injury -- one that was severe enough to force the 47-year-old to head home and miss Sunday's matchup.
Fortunately for the Clippers, they were still able to scrape out a tight win against the Kings even without Lue on the bench. L.A. had to rely on Kawhi Leonard's heroics as the six-time All-Star defeated Sacramento via an incredible buzzer-beating game-winner in overtime.
The Clippers were able to make it three straight wins after taking down the Kings at home, 111-110.
On Monday, ahead of L.A.'s three-game road trip, the Clippers were dealt a positive update on Lue. According to team insider Tomer Azarly of ClutchPoints, Lue will be joining the team on their upcoming trip.
"LA Clippers head coach Tyronn Lue did travel with the team on their upcoming road trip after missing last night's game against the Sacramento Kings due to back pain," Azarly posted on X.
There is no confirmation yet that Lue will be on the sidelines on Wednesday against the New Orleans Pelicans. However, the fact that he traveled with the team bodes well for the veteran coach.
If Lue is forced to sit out again, assistant coach Brian Shaw will take over again as he did on Sunday against the Kings.
