Former Razorback Finds New Home in Free Agency, Leaving 49ers for Broncos

The Arkansas Razorbacks have seen many great athletes take the field during the program's history, but very few have the level of success in the NFL that Dre Greenlaw has. Entering free agency this offseason, he was one of the top defensive players available, with several teams having an interest in signing him.

After being selected in the fifth round of the 2019 NFL Draft, the Arkansas product immediately made an impact at the next level. Him being a good NFL player wasn't surprising, especially given how productive he was as a tackler with the Razorbacks (320 career tackles). But his emergence at the NFL level with the San Francisco 49ers has now earned him a new contract, entering his seventh season in which he will be 28 years old.

As first reported by Ian Rapoport, Greenlaw is inking a three-year deal worth $35 million with the Denver Broncos. There has been a plethora of signings throughout the day, with free agency heating up, but Greenlaw's decision was one of the most anticipated.

While many teams had the desire to sign the former Razorback, perhaps the most interested was his former team, the 49ers. This isn't surprising, given how important he was for that franchise.

"You know how highly we think of Dre, and we'd love to have that," 49ers GM John Lynch said at the NFL Combine recently.

While he had many ups and downs in his six seasons with San Francisco, he was a tone-setter for the Niners and a key piece of their defense when he was healthy. He'll now look to bolster a Broncos defense that was already very good before adding Greenlaw.
