Ex Jets’ Zach Wilson Returning To AFC East

After a dizzying first unofficial day of NFL free agency, the New York Jets found their replacement for Aaron Rodgers. Meanwhile, the quarterback that Rodgers replaced also found a new home back in the AFC East.

Justin Fields will be the Jets' quarterback in 2025. And Zach Wilson will be back at MetLife Stadium this season. At least, as a member of a visiting team.

Wilson reached agreement on a one-year, $6 million, fully guaranteed deal with the Miami Dolphins Monday that could grow to $10 million with incentives. The Jets' No. 2 overall draft pick in 2021 has a new role as backup to Dolphins' starter Tua Tagovailoa.

Wilson spent last season with the Denver Broncos, who traded a sixth-round pick to the Jets for Wilson and a seventh-rounder last April. He was in was in a three-way competition for the starting job in training camp with rookie Bo Nix and Jarrett Stidham, but quickly slid to Denver's No. 3.

Wilson did not play a snap in 2024. He made 13 starts as a rookie for the Jets and went 12-21 overall.
