One lucky football fan will soon own equipment used during one of the most bizarre moments in NFL history.
Lelands, he world’s first sports memorabilia and card auction house, is offering cleats worn by former Central Michigan and NFL star Antonio Brown during his infamous mid-game meltdown on Jan. 1, 2022.
During the third quarter of that game against the New York Jets, the Buccaneers wide receiver took off his jersey, shoulder pads, shirt, and glove, and threw them into the stands before leaving the field and bolting from the stadium before the game was over.
Brown claimed the Bucs’ coaching staff was forcing him to play on his badly injured ankle. He further accused the Buccaneers of mischaracterizing his on-field outburst on the field as a “mental health issue” rather than a refusal to play due to extreme pain.
The size 11 Nike cleats are orange with black laces. A black Nike swoosh logo is present on both sides of each cleat and “Antonio Brown” is printed inside of each cleat in an orange, graffiti-style font.
Brown, a 7-time Pro Bowler who was released by the Bucs a few days after the meltdown, never played in the NFL again, making the cleats the final pair he wore during his mostly productive, 12-year career.
The auction runs until March 15. Current high bid is at $1,729.
