The Chargers have a new lead back.
According to NFL insider Adam Schefter, the Chargers are expected to sign former Steelers running back Najee Harris to a one-year deal worth up to $9.25 million. Harris is coming off his fourth-consecutive 1,000-yard seasons since entering the NFL and he’s played in all 17 games in each of those seasons, never missing a contest since becoming a pro.
Harris is a former first-round pick of the Steelers out of Alabama from the 2021 NFL draft. As a rookie, he rushed for 1,200 yards and seven touchdowns. He also added 467 yards through the air and three more scores, culminating in being named to that year’s Pro Bowl.
Following his rookie campaign, Harris has been the picture of consistency. In the previous three seasons, Harris has ended the year with 1,034, 1,035, and 1,043 rushing yards, respectively.
While at Alabama, Harris won the 2020 Doak Walker Award (nation’s top RB) and helped the Crimson Tide win national champions in both 2017 and 2020. He was a consensus All-American in 2020 after rushing for 1,466 yards and 26 touchdowns.
