On March 6, the Chinese Embassy in Singapore held the International Women's Day Reception and Opening Ceremony of the Shanghai-Style Qipao (Cheongsam) Singapore Special Exhibition. Chinese Ambassador Cao Zhongming, his wife Madam Yang Qing, and over 100 female guests from all sectors of Singapore, as well as female ambassadors and spouses of diplomatic envoys attended the reception.
In her speech, Madam Yang Qing extended her holiday greetings to all the guests. She emphasized that women must be proud of who they are and what they do, remain independent, and leverage their strengths to contribute their wisdom and share to the development of society. At the same time, women should balance their roles in both society and family life. They should also play their unique role in family, and make sure that their family uphold fine values and traditions, so that their family can contribute to the greater harmony and development of their respective countries.
Co-hosted by the Chinese Embassy in Singapore, China Cultural Centre in Singapore and Shanghai Haipai Qipao Cultural Promotion Association, the reception also featured a lecture on the culture of Shanghai-style qipao and other cultural experience events including a qipao show.
