Former Seahawks starter Cody Barton signs 3-year deal with Titans

On Sunday we noted that the Seattle Seahawks’ 2019 draft class, which is now completely off of the existing Seahawks roster, wasn’t exactly commanding top dollar outside of DK Metcalf. The one player from that class (outside of Metcalf, now with the Pittsburgh Steelers) who’s done well for himself is... Cody Barton?!

Yes. The former reserve and eventual starting linebacker for the Seahawks is on his fourth team in as many seasons, but this time he’s getting a multi-year contract via the Tennessee Titans.

I can confirm report by @MikeGarafolo that LB Cody Barton going to Titans for three years, $21 million after spending one season with #Broncos.

Barton, a third-round pick by the Seahawks out of Utah, spent his entire rookie deal in Seattle. After initially starting out as a quality special teams contributor, Barton became a starting linebacker alongside Jordyn Brooks in 2022. Barton left Seattle in free agency to go to the Washington Commanders on a $3.5 million deal, with on-field results not exactly panning out for either him or the entire Commanders defense.

Last season, Barton signed with the Denver Broncos on a $2.5 million contract, with much better on-field results for him individually and the Broncos defense as a whole. He played in every regular season game (starting 14), recording 106 tackles, 1.5 sacks, a pair of interceptions, and his first NFL touchdown against the New Orleans Saints.

Barton has gone from a scrutinized player in Seattle to getting a starter-level, multi-year contract with the Titans, holders of the No. 1 overall pick in next month’s draft. The Titans will also be hosting the Seahawks in the 2025 regular season, so we’ll be seeing him soon.
