Howie Tells Truth In Eagles Start To Free Agency

When Howie Roseman stood at his podium at the start of the Scouting Combine two weeks ago, the Philadelphia Eagles general manager made it clear to the fanbase that free agency would be far different than what they have become used to.

The Eagles have limited cap space, and a bevy of pending free agents to decide who to retain and who to let walk.

"It may look different - some of the moves that we may have to make here may not be what are necessarily on other people's minds," Roseman told reporters. "It's probably not going to look like maybe the conventional wisdom thinks it should look. I would just ask our fans to just have patience throughout the offseason. The offseason doesn't stop in free agency. The offseason doesn't stop in the draft."

Well the first day of free agency came and hit Eagles fans hard.

Whether it was Josh Sweat, Milton Williams, or even Darius Slay, the Eagles lost five key contributors to the roster from their Super Bowl winning season. It will be up to Roseman and the organization to figure out the best way to mitigate those losses.

Luckily for them, though, Philadelphia is better equipped for these losses than one may think.

Every free agent that has left the Eagles had a backup that stepped up well in key moments throughout their playoff run. If they continue to develop under Vic Fangio, there's no reason to suspect that the Eagles will miss many of their former starters.

Roseman stayed true to his word that things would be different this offseason for Philly.

That doesn't mean the organization is in trouble, though.
