THE Cherries secured a hard-fought 2-0 win against Abingdon United to maintain their perfect winning record in the National League Division One South West.

Bournemouth struggled to break down the Abingdon defence in a goalless first half, before Katie James opened the scoring with a deflected effort, before an Ali Hall stunner sealed the points.

Steve Cuss’s side enjoyed the lion’s share of the possession in the first half but the visitors to the Ringwood Community Hub were difficult to break down.

Abingdon keeper Caitlin Crierie pushed a James free kick over the cross bar, before Kenni Thompson shot over the bar with a speculative effort.

There was a pause in proceedings after [Cherries](http://www.bournemouthecho.co.uk/sport/cherries/clubnews/) striker Jenna Markham and Abingdon defender Libby Gilmore clashed heads, both needing some treatment.

Markham continued and Crierie saved her snapshot at the second attempt, before gathering a powerful James effort from 25 yards.

Molly Barron-Clark saw an improvised effort go over the top before Thompson’s free kick landed on the roof of the net, as the Cherries were unable to make the breakthrough before half time.

But they opened the scoring shortly before the hour mark, James’s low, driven cross flying into the back of the net after a deflection off a defender.

Abingdon threatened at the other end as they sought an immediate response, Thompson’s last-ditch tackle on Mollie Dyer stopping the striker from lining up a shot.

Hall was introduced in place of Erin Bloomfield after 73 minutes, and she headed Barron-Clark’s cross over the bar before seeing a powerful shot deflected behind for a corner.

Crierie kept Barron-Clark’s long-range effort out before Phoebe Williams was teed up by Markham, the keeper saving well.

But Crierie could do little about Hall’s stunning 25 yard shot two minutes from time, as the midfielder rifled a shot into the top corner to seal a 2-0 win for the Cherries.
