KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - One of the longest-tenured members of the Kansas City Chiefs will remain in red and gold for another season.
Amidst a flurry of moves on the first day of free agency, veteran long-snapper James Winchester and the Chiefs agreed to terms on another one-year deal that keeps him in Kansas City for an 11th season with the organization. That agreement was according to a report from NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, who said it was a one-year, fully guaranteed $1.65 million deal.
Winchester originally signed with Kansas City in 2015 after being an undrafted free agent out of Oklahoma. His 10 seasons with the Chiefs trail only tight end Travis Kelce as the longest-tenured member of the roster.
Winchester has appeared in every game for the Chiefs since 2015. He signed a one-year deal to stay with the Chiefs prior to the 2024 season as well. He’ll surpass $10 million in career earnings with this deal, according to Spotrac.

The 35-year-old native of Washington, Oklahoma, is a three-time Super Bowl champion. With his re-signing and the Chiefs having tendered punter Matt Araiza, the Chiefs’ field goal operation figures to remain the same for the 2025 season with Winchester, Araiza and kicker Harrison Butker.
His signing comes on the same day the Chiefs added former San Francisco 49ers left tackle Jaylon Moore and running back Elijah Mitchell.
