Warriors' Stephen Curry falls short of reaching milestone against Trail Blazers

Portland Trail Blazerscoach Chauncey Billups said before his team played at the Golden State Warriors Monday night that he hoped Stephen Curry would not make his 4,000th career three-point field against his team.

Billups got his wish.

Curry, the NBA’s all-time leader in three-point field goals made, entered the game needing seven to reach 4,000. He made five on 11 attempts while scoring 24 points during a 130-120 win at the Chase Center.

Curry made 2 of 2 three-point attempts in the first quarter, missed his lone attempt in the third and then made 3 of 4 in the third to sit at five. He missed all four attempts in the fourth.

Curry, 36, will likely reach 4,000 on Thursday when the Warriors host Sacramento.

Curry surpassed 25,000 points during Saturday’s win over the Detroit Pistons when he scored 32 points. He entered Monday ranked 30th all-time with 25,017 points.

Former Blazers star Damian Lillard, now with the Milwaukee Bucks, ranks fourth all-time in three-point field goals made with 2,790.

Former Blazers guard CJ McCollum, now with New Orleans, ranks 21st with 1,969. Anfernee Simons entered the night at 198th with 938.
