US President Donald Trump on Tuesday announced that he would buy a new Tesla car on Wednesday morning, calling it a **[gesture of confidence and support for billionaire](https://www.indiatoday.in/world/us-news/story/this-is-crazy-elon-musk-reacts-as-4-tesla-cybertrucks-go-up-in-flames-glbs-2691822-2025-03-11?utm_source=global-search&utm_medium=global-search&utm_campaign=global-search)** and Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) chief Elon Musk, whom he praised as "a truly great American".
"To Republicans, Conservatives, and all great Americans, Elon Musk is 'putting it on the line' in order to help our Nation, and he is doing a FANTASTIC JOB! But the Radical Left Lunatics, as they often do, are trying to illegally and collusively boycott Tesla, one of the World's great automakers, and Elon's 'baby', in order to attack and do harm to Elon, and everything he stands for," Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social.
Drawing a parallel to his own political struggles, Trump added, "They tried to do it to me at the 2024 Presidential Ballot Box, but how did that work out?"
The US President then declared his intention to purchase a Tesla vehicle, stating, “In any event, I'm going to buy a brand new Tesla tomorrow morning as a show of confidence and support for Elon Musk, a truly great American".
Trump concluded by questioning why Musk should face repercussions for his contributions to the country. "Why should he be punished for putting his tremendous skills to work in order to help MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN???" he wrote.
Elon Musk responded to Trump's announcement and wrote, "Thank you, President".
The US President's announcement came in response to the ongoing protests across the country against Tesla over Musk's role in the Trump administration. Across the country, Tesla facilities and vehicles are being hit with protests and violence.
Protesters have gathered peacefully at multiple Tesla locations, holding signs and chanting "Elon Musk has got to go" in response to Musk-led DOGE's deep cuts to federal jobs and budgets.
