Reece James explains why he wears his socks differently to his Chelsea teammates, it actually shows how much he loves the club

Chelsea fans and Enzo Maresca will be so glad that Reece James is fit and playing again.

James is such an important player for Chelsea and having come through the Blues’ academy, he is loved by supporters.

The defender gets the club and brings so much to the pitch. Despite being a right-back, James recently started in midfield for Maresca‘s side.

Simply put, he is a fantastic player who loves Chelsea, and one thing that he does every game really does show how much he adores the club.

Reece James always displays Chelsea lion on socks

James did not play in Chelsea’s 1-0 win against Leicester City last weekend because of illness, but he should be back for Sunday’s London derby versus Arsenal.

If he is, fans may be able to notice a subtle difference between his socks and everyone else’s on the Chelsea team.

The 25-year-old actually wears his socks backwards so that he can display the Chelsea lion on the back. Nike’s design of the socks features their logo on the front and the lion in Chelsea’s club crest on the back, and James has now explained why he likes it the other way around.

Speaking to Chelsea’s official website, the Englishman explained: “Yeah, it’s something I do on purpose. I just prefer to have Chelsea showing.”

It no doubt shows the love that the player has for the club, a player who is starting to show real leadership skills in his role as captain.

Maresca spoke about James after Chelsea’s 2-1 win against Copenhagen in the Conference League last week, sharing his happiness over the England international’s growth as a leader.

Reece James proud to play for Chelsea

James made his debut for Chelsea back in 2019, helping the Blues to thrash Grimsby Town 7-1 in the third round of the Carabao Cup.

Since then, the Chelsea skipper has gone on to make a further 169 appearances, an achievement that he is proud of.

In the same interview with the Blues’ official website, James added: “I am very proud I have been able to do that. It has been up and down along the way and it was tough to get into the first team and then stay there, but the journey has been an eventful and joyful one and I am so grateful to be in the position I am in now.”

Hopefully James can now stay fit and make another 170 appearances in a Chelsea shirt.
