Phillips, 29, has spent this campaign on loan at Ipswich Town from Manchester City in the Premier League. He has made 18 appearances for the Tractor Boys in all competitions, 15 of which have come in the league, and he has scored one goal.

In this latest update regarding his situation at Portman Road by The Sun, the Whites are said to be watching developments at the moment as they weigh up a swoop for later this year. He is due to return to the Etihad Stadium when his temporary deal with Kieran McKenna’s side comes to an end and his future is up in the air.

Leeds United could see Phillips as someone to add more competition and depth to their midfield ranks.

If they get promoted, their chances of luring the player back to Elland Road would be boosted.

“To be able to play under Pep and learn from him and his coaching staff as well as be part of a such a fantastic squad is a prospect that I am incredibly excited about.”

Phillips’ time at City hasn’t gone to plan though and he was loaned out to West Ham in the last campaign before his switch to Ipswich Town.

A return to Leeds United isn’t beyond the realms of possibility.
