Former referee Dermot Gallagher asked if Arsenal should have received penalty vs Man Utd after Ayden Heaven incident

Former Premier League referee Dermot Gallagher made his feelings clear on whether or not Arsenal were denied a clear penalty against Manchester United.

Manchester United hosted Arsenal at Old Trafford on Sunday evening and the two Premier League sides walked away with a point each after a 1-1 draw.

Bruno Fernandes put the Red Devils in the lead in the first half of injury time after his sensational direct free-kick beat Arsenal No 1 David Raya at Old Trafford.

Despite taking the lead into half-time, Ruben Amorim’s men were unable to see out the second half with their lead intact and Arsenal fought back after the break.

Declan Rice’s curling strike in the second half found the back of the United net and cancelled out Bruno Fernandes’ first-half opener against Arsenal.

United had chances to clinch all three Premier League points on the weekend, but a superb showing from David Raya denied Ruben Amorim’s side from beating Arsenal.

Dermot Gallagher’s position on Ayden Heaven incident in Man Utd vs Arsenal

Ruben Amorim made the big call to hand Ayden Heaven his Premier League debut for Manchester United in the second half against Arsenal in Sunday’s 1-1 draw.

The 40-year-old United manager withdrew Leny Yoro after the break and Ayden Heaven came on the pitch to face his former side for the first time since leaving.

Heaven impressed United fans with his performance and the 18-year-old defender, who was signed from Arsenal last month, secured valuable first-team minutes.

During the United vs Arsenal match at Old Trafford, the Gunners felt that they should have received a penalty after the ball struck the arm of Heaven.

Dermot Gallagher has now insisted that referee Anthony Taylor made the right decision not to point to the spot and ruled out the penalty call from Arsenal.

Speaking on Sky Sports’ Ref Watch, he said: “He heads it onto his own arm. He goes to head the ball, heads it onto his own arm, clears the ball.

“It’s not a penalty. It can’t be given like that. Nobody would give a penalty for that.”

What Ruben Amorim thought about Ayden Heaven’s Man Utd Premier League debut vs Arsenal

United manager Amorim has wasted no time using Ayden Heaven and played the Red Devils talent in the FA Cup defeat to Fulham at Old Trafford earlier this month.

Speaking after the Arsenal match, the former Sporting CP boss praised Heaven for stepping up in the second half during his cameo performance in the Premier League.

“I think he played really well,” Amorim said at his post-match press conference.

“He’s really comfortable with the ball, sometimes more than he should be! He is so relaxed and that is a good thing.

“He’s very aggressive. I think we have a very good player.”

United are 14th in the Premier League table and the Red Devils are level on points with 13th-place Tottenham after 28 league matches played.
