Elena Fort, FC Barcelona’s vice president, has admitted that the club does not have an exact return date in mind for the club to go back to playing at Camp Nou.
“As of today we will no longer set an exact date,” she told the radio show El Suplement on Catalunya Ràdio.
“The picture I’m giving you today, which could change in a week, is that the work is going at a great pace. Yesterday we published the photos of the seats, of how they are being placed, and we are working on the issue of the grass. The interior is also very advanced. There are some delivery dates for the works, and we will assess, at the appropriate time, whether it is worthwhile to play the matches in May,” she said.
If Barcelona were to reach the UEFA Champions league semifinals, it’s understood they would be played at the Olympic Stadium in Montjuïc. However, there is still some hope that el Clásico would be played against Real Madrid at the Camp Nou.
Delays have prevented Barcelona from returning to Camp Nou at the beginning of the year as was once foreseen. Indeed, Barcelona had to apply for an extension to play at Montjuïc longer than first expected.
If all goes as planned, Camp Nou could be ready in time for the match against Real Madrid. If not, it will surely be ready to go for next season.
