Everton defender Michael Keane has fallen to the back of the pecking order under David Moyes.

The former England international last featured for the Toffees when he made a six-minute cameo appearance during their 2-0 defeat to Bournemouth in the fourth round of the FA Cup.

Since then, Keane has only been able to watch on as an unused substitute while Moyes’ side have enjoyed an eight-game unbeaten run in the Premier League.

Keane was already out of favour at Goodison Park, and has managed just 14 appearances across all competitions this term, but he has not made a single top-flight start since Moyes was re-appointed back in January.

Keane is set to depart Everton on a free transfer

The defender’s contract with the Merseyside outfit expires this summer, so the Toffees will not be able to recoup a transfer fee for his services having bought him from Burnley in a move worth £30million back in 2017.

Keane has made over 225 appearances since moving to Goodison Park nearly eight years ago, but he is set to depart the club this summer.

The Mirror report that Saudi Pro League side Al-Riyadh and MLS outfit FC Dallas are among those monitoring the centre-back’s situation, while he is also of interest to a number of Italian clubs.

This summer is the perfect time for Everton to facilitate Keane’s exit

Plenty of change is on the horizon for Everton, as they wave goodbye to the famous Goodison Park at the end of the campaign ahead of next season’s move to their new stadium on Bramley-Moore Dock.

The Toffees faithful will also hope that such a change will see their side return to the top-half of the Premier League table in the years to come, as their side will have endured four successive seasons in the lower echelons of the top-flight come the end of the term in May.

Moyes has already shown that he can be the man to lead Everton to a better future, having guided the side through eight successive league games without suffering a defeat.

But as a new era approaches for the Merseysiders, the upcoming summer is also the right time to say their goodbyes to Keane who has provided the club with excellent service over the years but has now fallen out of favour as his contract nears its end.
