Arsenal have been without a sporting director since Edu Gaspar left his role at the north London club last November.
The Gunners have made progress in finding a replacement and are set to appoint Andrea Berta as Edu’s successor.
That’s according to tuesday’s edition of [Marca](http://marca.com/), who cover Arsenal’s efforts to bring him to the Emirates.
Berta will return to management the Premier League club will make his arrival official in the ‘next few days’. The report states there’s total agreement between the two parties.
The 53-year-old initially joined Atlético Madrid as their technical director in 2013 and was promoted as the sporting director in July 2017. He held that position until leaving the La Liga club at the start of this year.
His work at Atlético didn’t go unnoticed and had received approaches from Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester United and Arsenal. Marca doesn’t make it clear as to when the former three made contacts and it won’t matter as he’s now moving to the Emirates.
The Italian will be Arsenal’s ‘brain’ next season and will work with Mikel Arteta to reshape the Gunners’ squad.
